Around the late 19th century in Alberta, Canada in the late 1880's. a sickly child called James was born into the wealthy Howlett family to Elizabeth Howlett and John Howlett Jr., owners of a large estate. There was some suggestion that he is the product of the illicit affair between Elizabeth Howlett and Thomas Logan which had occurred in the past. In his adulthood James Howlett came to resemble the appearance of the groundskeeper, Thomas Logan, much more closely than his legal father.
