As a comic series, X-Men lagged behind other titles such as the Hulk and Spider-Man in the 1970's. However, the creation of the Giant-Sized X-Men comic book brought life back to the group which now included Wolverine.

Wolverine would not gain popularity with readers until later on, eventually getting him his own comic series self-titled Wolverine.
